Writer Support Plan 2020-2021
What is it:
Award-winning Hull company Silent Uproar is releasing £20,000 to support brilliant, bold and exciting Northern playwrights (anyone who was born, raised or lives in the North of England).
Year-Long Support
Selected playwrights will receive year-long support and up to £3000 to develop a new play with Silent Uproar, as well as dramaturgical support from Silent Uproar and their regional pals (including Hull Truck Theatre, Stephen Joseph Theatre and Middle Child). There is further support available as part of their wider ‘writer support plan’.
Who is this support for?
Silent Uproar is looking to support early-career playwrights who:
- Were born, raised and/or live in the North of England
- Have already completed one full-length production (60+ mins) and/or one full-length commission.
- Whose identity is currently under-represented in modern theatre.
- Could work well with Silent Uproar as a company and share their passion for making fun nights out for an ‘alternative’ theatre crowd. See their Artistic Policy for more info
How to get involved
Silent Uproar wishes to use this as an opportunity to build relationships with playwrights so they can get to know them and their work better. If you want to get involved please send them a full draft as an example of your work. They are not asking for people to write something original for this submission window. Existing scripts, including ones submitted to other companies/ venues/awards etc, are welcome.
This will help them understand how they can best collaborate with writers in the future/what support they can give.
