We’re very happy to announce we’ll be offering a range of new courses to support writers in Spring 2016, ranging from one-off workshops to term-long courses, and catering to writers at a variety of levels.
Do keep an eye on on our Workshops listings, as we may add new courses for later in the spring.
Please note that booking for all courses is handled on a rolling basis, so its best to apply early to ensure your spot if you’d like to take part.
Professional Development
Your Self-Producing Toolkit: A day-long introduction
Saturday 23 January 2016 from 10.30am – 5pm
Could 2016 be the year your play is produced? You could be the one to make it happen. This information-intensive (but fun!) workshop will provide a detailed introduction to producing your own work, empowering participants with the skills and confidence to get their work onstage.
Ongoing Writing Workshops
Finding Your Voice – with A.C. Smith
14 January – 10 March 2016 on Thursday afternoons from 3-5pm (8 sessions – no class 11 Feb)
Finding Your Voice is an eight-week, intermediate-level course that uses exercises to unlock the imagination and challenges writers to identify and develop their strengths. (Writing sample required.)
Re-drafting Your Play – with Kimberley Andrews
4 February – 10 March 2016 on Thursday evenings from 7-9pm (6 sessions)
It’s a well-known saying that “writing is rewriting”. This workshop is designed for writers who have completed a first draft, and are looking for support on sharpening and tightening their play before sending it out. (Works-in-progress welcome!)
One-Off Writing Workshops
These one-off workshops were developed in response to feedback we’ve had, and provide an intensive look at a particular playwriting topic. These can provide an extra boost in addition to our core courses, but are also designed to suit writers who schedules or finances make them unable to commit to an ongoing writing programme. We’ll be running workshops on a range of subjects throughout the spring, but the first two are listed below.
Intensive Workshop: Finding Inspiration and Developing Your Idea
Saturday 5 March 2016 from 10:00am-12:00pm
Need help developing your idea or knowing where to jump in on a new project? This workshop covers a wide range of possibilities to identify and make the most of inspiration to get you writing with confidence.
Intensive Workshop: Creating Engaging Characters
Thursday 17 March 2016 from 7-9pm
This workshop provides an intensive look at how to create more vivid characters, developing tools to bring to life the characters actors are dying to play and audiences can’t forget.
