Noising Up is set to return to BBC Radio Scotland and BBC Sounds. Noising Up needs your topical, satirical and observational sketches! The series will cover Scottish politics and beyond. They will be looking at Scottish contemporary life. And they can feature anything and everything!
RESET
Wee bit of change since Noising Up were last on air. Scotland has a new Prime Minister and he’s saying he wants to “reset” the relationship between Scotland and Westminster. That feels like a great place for Noising Up to come in and include a whole lot of brand-new satirical sketches! The landscape has changed, Noising Up wants to reflect that! So everything is up for grabs.
POLITICS
How can you reflect Scottish politics in a sketch? What’s the hook or the angle? Its all happening. And, as the team discover from series to series, the shorter the better! As well as sketches, please send in any satirical one-liners that fit Scottish politics. They could be newslines, character lines, gags or observational lines.
LIFE
There is life beyond politics and often there’s a good contrast between a sketch that satirises events at Holyrood with something that touches upon general living. So sketches that focus on “real people”, set on dates, cover everyday events, current trends and crazes and deal with family etc are all welcome!
SPOOFS
The team can spoof movies, social media and tech. Ad parodies are welcome – either real products or fictional inventions.
SPORT
One thing Noising Up like to feature is a sports feature on the show. The team like to cover football at all levels in Scotland plus other sports such as golf, rugby and even American sports when they dominate the headlines.
MUSIC
Noising Up loves ending on a song, and the team would like to keep this going. They’re mainly looking for quick songs to end the show – one chorus or a verse and a chorus. All genres considered – showtunes, retro pop, big hits, Scottish classics, hip hop, reworked theme tunes, anything, maestro!
OTHER STORIES
Sometimes it can be useful to pinpoint a story that the audience will recognise and is less likely to clash with another sketch. For example, what’s happening in Hollywood? What’s big for the Royal Family? What’s breaking in local news? What new books are out? What’s on the agenda across the rest of Europe? What environmental issues are in the headlines?
ONE-LINERS
Noising Up wants political one-liners. They’re also looking for newslines and less formal types of gags.
RECOGNISABLE
As the team have been making Noising Up, they are discovering that anything that makes your sketch instantly recognisable goes down a treat. So they would recommend baking your gag, observation or character into a TV show spoof or a movie trail or a section on a recognisable radio show or anything that gives the audience a “hook” that makes it all the easier for the listener to instantly get it.
