The National Theatre Introduction to Playwriting course with Chris Bush (Zoom)

The National Theatre are running an ‘Introduction to Playwriting’ course, taking place on Zoom over 8 biweekly sessions across April. This online course is led by playwright Chris Bush (Standing on Sky’s Edge,  Crucible Theatre; Pericles, National Theatre) and will give an introduction to the tools and techniques you can use to write a play. In a group of up to 12 people, we will focus on exercises and approaches to writing, with opportunities for discussion and shared group critiques.

This course is for you if you would like to write a show; if you are new to playwriting or have a little playwriting experience but would like to clarify your ideas and technique.  You will finish the course with a toolkit of exercises and techniques, a network of peer playwrights (your fellow course participants), and a deeper understanding of the next steps you can take to continuing writing and developing your play. You will also have the opportunity to hear a short piece of your writing sight-read aloud by NT actors during one of the sessions, to help refine your thoughts and ideas.

The course is priced at a full price of £250 and concession price of £220, and bursaries are available upon application. Full details including course structure and how to apply are included within the page linked here.
