DRAFT is new writing development event for fresh ideas
Produced by Jordan Blackwood in collaboration with Daniel Cameron & Jamie Eastlake
DRAFT 3 will take place on Friday 10th June at Theatre N16.
They’re looking for writers, directors and actors interested in developing new work in an intensive, collaborative environment.
What to submit: In their own words:
“We’ll select five writers who have new ideas in development, unanswered questions and a desire to explore the potential in their work. There’s no set theme, we’re simply looking for work with strong dramatic potential.
DRAFT 3 will feature:
- A: Four 10-15 minute extracts from new plays, each staged in one day
- B: One idea for a new play, to be devised, written and read in one day
A: Our tried and tested method places first draft ideas in the rehearsal room, allowing writers to visualise their characters and be inspired by fresh interpretations. Previous DRAFT writers have enjoyed the freedom to ask questions, discuss their intentions and network with other makers.
B: A new strand of the event geared towards writers who have an idea they can’t get off the ground and would benefit from testing out a concept in an open devising space. Their challenge is to put pen to paper on the day as a response to improvisation exercises and a hothouse devised approach, and work with a director and actors to showcase a snippet of the idea. We’re excited by work that can be created in this collaborative respect, and are looking for writers keen to experiment with a new approach.”
How to apply: To apply with an extract (A), please send:
- An extract of 10-15 minutes in length
- Submission Form A (download here)
To apply with an unwritten idea (B), please send:
- A 10-15 minute extract of your previous work
- Submission Form B (download here)
Please note: Submission B is for writers with ideas they have not already written in any respect – if you have already written a scene from your play, please submit it through channel A.
Before applying, please ensure you have read all information, have a grasp of what the project entails and know which submission channel (A or B) you’re applying to. You must also be available day-time Sunday 5th June for the Table Read/Discussion and all day Friday 10th June for the event itself.
All submissions should be sent to jordan@theatren16.co.uk with the subject line: “DRAFT 3 Submission” followed by A (extract) or B (unwritten idea).
