#WrAP is coming back for 2022! Write a play in January!

The end of 2021 is fast approaching and it’s time for us to let you know for the 5th year running our January playwriting challenge Write A Play (WrAP) is BACK!

As always, we’ll be challenging you to write a first draft of a play in January, whilst providing all the prompts you need to get you going  – direct to your inbox! This year, we’re planning on making it even better than ever with live Zoom sessions and some bonus redrafting content to help you go beyond the first draft.

What’s WrAP? WrAP is our annual playwriting challenge where you aim to write the first draft of a play in the month of January. When you sign up, you receive emails throughout the month which guide you through the process of writing a play – from finding inspiration for your initial idea, to building a structure, to creating characters. The idea is to complete a first draft of a play in the month of January.

That’s a big commitment, what if I don’t have time? It doesn’t matter! You can’t fail at WrAP – even if you only manage a few pages or the seeds of an idea, it’s still more than you had to start with and that’s a massive achievement for January! Plus the emails will be in your inbox forever so you can work through them at a later date if need be.

How will WrAP2022 be better than ever? We know lots of you have done WrAP before over the last few years so we’re always looking for ways to improve it! This year we’ll be weekly Zoom sessions to the process to give you the chance to ask questions and discuss the challenges you might be facing.  Zoom sessions will take place on Thursday evenings at 7pm throughout January and we’ll talk about the week’s prompts and get ready for a weekend of writing! If you can’t attend the sessions, you’ll also be sent the recording. To add to this, we’ll also be sending out some bonus redrafting content in the Spring, after you’ve had the chance to develop your first draft a bit further.

What if I’ve never written a play before, can I take part? Yes! It doesn’t matter if it’s your first play or your fiftieth, or if you have minimal spare time: all that matters is that you want to give it a go. After all, even if you only get a few scenes written, or a rough first draft, it’s still more than you had at the start of January. #WrAP2022. WrAP is actually great for beginners as it guides you through the writing process and helps you to stay on track!

Can we submit our WrAP plays to you?  We’ll be opening our 2022 submission window a bit later in 2022 (we received a mammoth amount of wonderful plays from you in 2021 and we’re still finalising our shortlist and development schemes so we want to make sure we aren’t too swamped!). This time round, we’ll be asking for polished scripts so we’ll be sure to give you plenty of time to work on those WrAP scripts!

How do I sign up? If you’re already a member, just head over to the members site and you’ll see the link the sign up to the WrAP mailing list, and that’s it – you’re all set to make 2022 an amazing year for writing. If you’re not a member yet, you’ll need to sign up, but you can do this for just £3.63 here.

Why do I need to be a member? We rely on support from our members to keep our work going and initiatives such as WrAP are only made possible through the revenue we receive from subscriptions. Not only will your membership allow us to create these resources and keeping bringing you the round-up of the latest playwriting opportunities but you’ll also get access to lots of other amazing benefits (find out more here).

If you’re already a member just head over to the members’ site and login – you’ll find the sign up button in the ‘resources’ menu under WrAp2022.
      Hope this helps!

      1. I’m logged in and from where I’m sitting there’s no sign of WrAP2022 in Resources. Perhaps the problem’s at my end?

I am a member and can log in to the website. But if I click on the #Wrap2022 link, I land on a page that asks me to log in. Once I do that, I land on the general resources page. If I click on the #Wrap2022 link afterwards, I receive a message that I need to log in. It is a never-ending loop. Can you help?

Oh no, so sorry about this. I’ll look into it right away – I’ll also add you manually to the WrAP2022 mailing list if you like?

      Thanks,
      Kimberley

  2. When I try to log in I’m told the the connection isn’t secure. (I have Sophos installed.)

Any other way I can log in? I’d like to WRAP!

    Thanks
