Writer in Residence at Theatre Clwyd

As part of a commitment to becoming a home for writers in Wales, Theatr Clwyd is offering playwrights the time and space to write within a community of fellow artists without the pressure of ‘showing’ or producing something.

For the second year, they are offering further residencies connected to their in-house productions. Writers can get to know other artists working here, spending time observing rehearsals and developing ideas in a supportive environment.  This programme was piloted last year, the result of many conversations between Artistic Director Tamara Harvey and playwrights at all stages in their careers, exploring what it is that writers actually need.

The residency includes:

  • A bursary to cover travel, subsistence and expenses
  • Accommodation at the nearby Gladstone’s Library (a beautiful Grade I listed building and the only Prime Ministerial Library in Britain)
  • Use of Theatr Clwyd’s Writers’ Room
  • Optional feedback on any work produced
  • The potential to work with actors performing at Theatr Clwyd on any work in progress

“This is a wonderful opportunity for writers to spend time writing and reflecting on their practice and to get feedback on their work. Our hope is that these attachments will form the beginning of a relationship with Theatr Clwyd and a network of writers who can call our theatre home.”

Tamara Harvey, Theatr Clwyd Artistic Director

How to Apply:  If you are interested, please send an email giving a sense of what you’d like to work on while you’re in residence to nick.stevenson@theatrclwyd.com.

Please also say which of the two productions you would be available or prefer to be attached to, and why (details below). They will be selecting two writers from the applications we receive and will notify all applicants in due course. You will receive more information after submitting your application.

Please note that this is developmental attachment – Theatre Clwyd wants to develop long term relationships with writers and this is just one of the ways they intend to do that. The attachment is about you, rather than what you write while you are here.
