in the BFI Teen Scene Script challenge, eight IdeasTap members age 16-25 will have their short teen drama scripts filmed by the BFI.
As part of their upcoming Teenage Kicks season, the BFI has been working with production design students at Wimbledon College of Arts to create a working film set in the style of a teenager’s bedroom. Each week the set will be dressed differently to represent a different fictional teenage character, created by the BFI’s set designers. The BFI wants you to write a two-page scene involving any of these characters (and their fictional friend, who you can invent) taking place in their bedroom/the set.
The BFI gang will select two winning scripts each week and give you and your friends/film crew the opportunity to film your scene on set. They’ll provide a time and the set, and we’ll also provide you with the actors, the filming and editing equipment, and technical support to shoot and edit your film.
On the website are the character profiles that the production design students from Wimbledon College of Arts have designed each different set around. Each character represents a distinct part of the BFI’s Teenage Kicks season. The judges are looking for engaging, concise scripts that explore the main characters and the world/bedroom they inhabit.
What you get: There will be eight winners of this brief in total (two winning scripts will be selected for each of the four characters/set designs). The finished films will be screened at BFI (dates TBC) and showcased on its online platforms.
Additional terms and conditions: The winners must be able to film on the dates we make available in August and provide a crew of at least three people to cover directing, camera/cinematography, sound recording, editing. Filmmaking experience not necessary but helpful.
How to apply: Applications are made via the IdeasTap Brief. (Note: you must have an IdeasTap profile to apply.)
Please upload a two-page script based on one of the main characters outlined in the brief description to your IdeasTap portfolio – the judges will look at this when evaluating your application.
