Call for submissions for Radical Ideas at Rich Mix (£500 commission)

In April 2016 Rich Mix turns 10. As part of their birthday celebrations they will be commissioning a range of new work that is rooted in the East End, and curating a programme that explores the historical, political and artistic context in which Rich Mix was conceived and founded.

They intend for the programme to celebrate the rich diversity of the local area and to examine how the arts is closely linked to political and social change. This programme will look back at the history of protest, dissent and creativity in the East End and they hope that it will allow artists to imagine the London of the next decade and beyond.

For these celebrations, they will commission ten new pieces of work that will take place in their performance spaces upstairs between April 2016 and March 2017.

Eligibility:  In order for your work to be considered, you must have been working in live performance for 5 years or less. Work must be no longer than 90 minutes (excluding interval), however they will consider shorter works to be presented as part of a double or triple bill.

What to submit:  Your proposal must be an original idea, which has not yet been shown, and cannot be shown elsewhere prior to your performance at Rich Mix.

As a guide, they invite you to respond to one or more of the themes below –

  • Gentrification
  • Radicalisation

  • Freedom of Speech
