The Production Exchange are now accepting submissions of new plays from early-career writers for consideration for their Festival of New Writing to be held in London this autumn.
During the festival, they will showcase five brand new plays over five consecutive nights as script in hand performances at a London venue. they hope that for at least one of these plays, the reading will be the first step in its development which will conclude in a full production at a major London or regional venue, supported and produced by The Production Exchange.
The producers, directors and writers involved will be early-career practitioners, who will be mentored by The Production Exchange’s team and other industry professionals.
What to submit: In their own words:
“We are seeking to discover plays that provoke us, that examine our world and the communities in which we live, that tell stories that shock, move and excite us. Stories that people will fight to see.”
They invite submissions from early-career writers for plays that adhere to one or more of the following criteria:
- Are about now
- Tell a story/stories about forgotten heroes
- Are based on true events
- Cast light on humanity/communities
- Propose new ways to experience theatre
- Make us laugh
Please note that they can only accept submissions of full-length plays which run at, at least 90 minutes plus an interval. They will not be able to accept any one act plays.
They ask that the plays target one or more of the following audiences:
- Families
- Drama/Thriller audiences
- Populist plays
- New attenders
- Existing attenders
- Young adults
- Comedy audiences.
