IdeasTap presents…Old Vic 12 – open for applications

The Old Vic 12 is an exciting opportunity for 12 emerging artists looking to make the next step in their careers. The scheme will offer them opportunities to expand networks, receive first class mentorship and benefit from the prestigious association with The Old Vic through an attachment to Matthew Warchus’ first season.

They are looking for three directors, three playwrights, three producers, plus one designer, composer and choreographer. Applicants should have had one or two plays produced and should be ready for their first commission.

From October 2015 till August 2016, the playwrights will be under commission with The Old Vic, with a workshop presentation at the end of the scheme.

What you win:

  • The prestige of being an artist on attachment with The Old Vic Theatre and being one of The Old Vic 12
  • A commissioning fee of £5,000 for a new play
  • Mentoring and dramaturgical support from Old Vic Staff and Associates
  • An Old Vic 12 Producer and Director who will collaborate to develop the play
  • Invitations to Old Vic meetings, press nights, special events and workshops throughout the year and unprecedented access to Matthew Warchus’ first season
  • The opportunity to work with other emerging practitioners
  • Access to rehearsal space at The Old Vic Workrooms to develop your own work (subject to availability)

 

You will:

  • Write a play up to 70 minutes in length, delivering drafts to deadlines
  • Attend meetings with other members of The Old Vic 12 and The Old Vic Staff during the development process
  • Deliver a Playwriting masterclass to 20-25 artists who are at an entry level for their career

 

Please note:

  • Old Vic New Voices will be judging the competition.
  • Candidates invited for interview will be contacted the w/c 7 September. Interviews will take place at The Old Vic Workrooms on the 14, 15 and 16 September

How to apply: as you probably know, IdeasTap closed last month, so although this opportunity is run by them, you’ll need to apply through Hiive. You’ll be asked to set up a profile and upload a short example of your work (2/3 pages) along with your CV.
