Live Theatre is looking for North East based writer/performers to submit up to ten minutes of bold new writing for Live Writes: Writer/Performer Edition, taking place at Live Theatre, Newcastle upon Tyne, on Tuesday 10 November 2026.
Selected writers will perform their own work in a supportive, low pressure scratch night setting. Submissions may be a solo piece or involve up to three additional performers. Any additional performers will be cast by Live Theatre through their open casting call. Every script will be assigned a director by Live Theatre through an open call. The work can be a complete short play or an extract from a longer script. Now only will writers have their work performed on Live Theatre’s main stage, they will also receive bespoke feedback from a panel of theatre professionals. The rehearsal, tech and performance all take place over one day, Tuesday 10 November 2026. Rehearsal space is provided by Live Theatre as part of the project.
Eligibility Applicants must:
- Be currently based in the North East of England.
- Be the writer of the submitted work and wish to perform in it.
- Be available to attend Live Theatre on Tuesday 10 November 2026.
- Submit work that has not previously been performed or staged.
- Submit a piece requiring no more than four performers in total.
The opportunity is open to writers at all levels of experience. There is no age restriction.

Each selected writer will receive a £150 day fee. For writers, this payment is a rights fee for the performance of their work rather than a commission fee.
