LPW Workshops: Rough to Ready (Re-drafting with Kimberley Andrews)

Getting ready to submit to a competition? Agent? Theatre? First, make sure your script is really ready to go!

Rough to Ready (Re-drafting with Kimberley Andrews) is an intensive course which will equip writers with everything they need to write a killer second draft. The script you submit is representative of you as a writer – and this course will ensure that you’re presenting the very best version of your script.

Course content: the course takes place over two intensive all day (Saturday) sessions. There is a two-week break in between sessions to allow for re-writes.

With a focus on sharing work with the group, writers will gain the rigorous feedback needed to improve their work. Sessions will take writers through the re-drafting process, tackling in detail the essentials for writing a submission worthy script, including:

  • Hooking the reader with the first 10 pages.
  • Tackling the re-drafting of difficult scenes.
  • Using structure to tell the most interesting version of your story.
  • Polishing your script to a professional standard.

Requirements: this class is suitable for new writers but it’s essential that you have a completed first draft of a play to participate; very rough drafts are welcome, as the long as the play is written as a full script, rather than in note form.  If you have any queries about the requirements, please email workshops@londonplaywrights blog.com

Course Dates: Saturday 13th May, Saturday 27th May (10am-5pm)

Location: Theatre Delicatessen Studios, 30 Marsh Wall, Isle of Dogs, London E14 9TP (nearest tube: Canary Wharf)

Cost: £120

I wish to join this course. I have a play ready that needs many corrections (my view). Is the course open? How many writers will be there to a tutor?

      Hi Kamaljit,

The course is now open for bookings. I will be the tutor (you can check out bio in the blog post). There will be no more than 8-10 writers in the group (depending on bookings).

      Thanks,
      Kimberley

    Hi Kimberley
I’m really interested in attending but I’m not sure if my ‘play’ even resembles a first draft. Could you give me a rough idea how many pages I’d be needing? The other thing is that I’m not entirely sure I like what I’ve written which might also be problematic. Sorry to be a pain, as I say, I’m keen but not sure I’m best suited to this course. Any advice would be much appreciated.
    Best wishes
    Steve

      Hi Steve,
Thanks for your email. Plays in very rough form are more than welcome. There are no requirements for page numbers, as long as you’ve managed to write the whole play from start to finish (if it’s shorter than you’d like, that might be because some bits are under developed and we can use the sessions to help you figure out which areas those are). The course will give you plenty of feedback on your work so you should get a good idea of what’s working and what isn’t.
Hope that helps, feel free to get in touch if you have any more questions.
      Best wishes,
      Kimberley

  3. Hi Kimberley
I am looking forward to joining you on Saturday and have my play ready. How much of it should I bring along? I can print off the whole thing but guessing that will be over-kill.
    Kind regards
    Julia

      Hi Julia,
Looking forward to meeting you on Saturday and working with you on your play. You’re welcome to bring in a hard copy of your script or you can work from a laptop if you prefer. I’ll be sending out an email today explaining more about how the session will work so that should give you a better idea of how much of the script to bring in.
      Best wishes,
      Kimberley
