Opportunities: Our Pick of the Week – 2016 Papatango Award – with extra £6000 award!

Each week we look through our pile of writing opportunities to pick out one we think is particularly worth your time. It could be an innovative brief, great prize money, a high-profile company, or just plain fun.

This week’s pick:  2016 Papatango Award – with extra £6000 award!

Description: The 2016 Papatango Award is open for submissions! As well as a four week production at Southwark Playhouse, publication by Nick Hern Books and a royalty of 10% of the gross box office, this year’s winner will also receive a £6000 commission to develop a follow-up play.  (A new addition this year!) Writers can submit an unproduced script, of at least 80 minutes’ length, anonymously.

So, what’s so great about it? Where to start? Not only is this award highly esteemed (it has been running for a few years now and is certainly on our radar as one of the awards to look out for) but the winner gets a whopping package of prizes! As mentioned in the description above, the winner gets published by Nick Hern Books, a 4 week run at Southwark Playhouse with 10% of gross box office and a £6000 commission to develop a follow up play. Submissions are completely anonymous so you’ll be safe in the knowledge that you are being judged on your play rather than previous experience. You’ve got until 31st March 2016 to submit your play so that gives you a good couple of months to get that play in to shape!
