Each week we look through our pile of writing opportunities to pick out one we think is particularly worth your time. It could be an innovative brief, great prize money, a high-profile company, or just plain fun.
This week’s pick: RE:act at the St James Theatre
Description: RE:act is a regular new writing opportunity that brings together theatremakers from a variety of fields to create a response to the mainstage show at the St James Theatre. The pieces are written in 24 hours, then rehearsed and performed at the St James Studio.
So, what’s so great about it? Part of what makes this opportunity unique is that it embraces theatremakers from a wide range backgrounds – from musical theatre writers to puppeteers – meaning you’ll not only get to meet folks within your field, but also widen your horizons a bit. The setup of RE:act provides lots of opportunities to network: seeing the mainstage show with the other participants, during the rehearsal process, and through the talkback after the performances. If you’re someone who works well under a deadline, then then challenge if creating a short play in only 24 hours may be exactly what you’re looking for! They’re accepting applications until 4 January 2016, and will continue to run these events throughout 2016, so there will also be future opportunities to apply to be involved.
