Each week we look through our pile of writing opportunities to pick out one we think is particularly worth your time. It could be an innovative brief, great prize money, a high-profile company, or just plain fun.
This week’s pick: Red Dragonfly New Writing Competition 2016
Description: Red Dragonfly Productions is partnering with Grist to the Mill Productions to run a new playwriting competition for 30-minute stage plays. The competition is open to writers from East Asian, South Asian and South East Asian Communities, and offers a £1000 prize. They are seeking family-friendly plays for up to four performers, with minimal technical requirements.
What’s so great about it? It’s fantastic to see a competition for a short play (30 minutes) with such a large prize attached – and no entry fee required. Additionally, the top ten shortlisted writers will all be invited to participate in a workshop, which is a fantastic opportunity. Another bonus – you don’t have to have completed the script at this stage, they’re only looking for a one-page description of your idea at the initial stages. You have until 1 October to get your submissions in, so if you match the entry criteria, there’s no better time to get writing!
