Each week we look through our pile of writing opportunities to pick out one we think is particularly worth your time. It could be an innovative brief, great prize money, a high-profile company, or just plain fun.
This week’s pick: The Kevin Elyot Award
Description: The Kevin Elyot Award is designed to support a playwright as they develop a new work inspired by Kevin Elyot’s archive, using the University of Bristol Archive collection. The Award includes a residency and production of a new piece.
What’s so great about it? The winning writer of this award will receive £3,000 to fund a four-week residency at the University, and support for the research and sharing of the work. This chance for a funded placement is a unique opportunity for a playwright. It allows the recipient to engage with the memory and work of another esteemed writer, creating a dialogue with the past as they create something new. Plus, while you’re required to submit a detailed plan and budget, we think part of the magic of archive is that you never know quite what you’ll discover. Get your application in by 3 June if you’d like to be considered!
