Opportunities – Pick of the Week: 2017 Papatango New Writing Prize

Each week we look through our pile of writing opportunities to pick out one we think is particularly worth your time. It could be an innovative brief, great prize money, a high-profile company, or just plain fun.

This week’s pick: 2017 Papatango New Writing Prize

Description:  The Papatango New Writing Prize  offers a winning writer a four week production at Southwark Playhouse, publication by Nick Hern Books, 10% of the gross box office income and a £6000 commission and full developmental support for their next play. The prize has been successfully running for several years now and has fast become one of the ‘ones to watch’ in playwriting competitions. Entry to the Prize is anonymous. The competition is open to anyone resident in the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland only. There is no age limit.

What’s so great about it? Erm, did you read the description?! The winner of this one gets produced, published and commissioned to write their next play! This prize speaks for itself, so as long as you’re in possession of an original, unproduced play which runs for at least 70 minutes, we think you should go for it! Take this as your two-week warning, you’ve got until 5 March at Midnight to get those scripts in. Before you submit, it’s worth checking out all the guidelines – the big one to note is that your script must be submitted anonymously.
