Opportunities – Pick of the Week: BBC Writersroom COMEDY Script Room 2017 open for submissions

Each week we look through our pile of writing opportunities to pick out one we think is particularly worth your time. It could be an innovative brief, great prize money, a high-profile company, or just plain fun.

This week’s pick: BBC Writersroom COMEDY Script Room 2017 open for submissions

Description: BBC Writersroom’s regular window for unsolicited scripts is open and this time, they are accepting comedy scripts. They are asking writers to submit their scripts, specifying which consecutive 10 pages they would like to be read first.

What’s so great about it? Writersroom use their twice yearly script rooms to identify writers for development – and they are renown for supporting and developing the selected writers. This time, writers get to choose the 10 pages they’d like to be read first – so you can really show off your best work (although, you do need to submit a script of at least 30 pages)!

Better still, they are accepting scripts for TV, Film, Radio, Stage or Online  – just as long as it’s a comedy. They have plenty of guidelines on their website to show you what they’re looking for. One tip – don’t leave it until the last minute to apply, as you’ll need to set up an online account with the BBC’s e-submission service and answer a few application questions before you submit (and they are very firm about not accepting late applications!). You’ve got around a month until the deadline on 15th May at 5pm.
