Opportunities – Pick of the Week: The BRIT School looking for a playwright to write graduate production

Each week we look through our pile of writing opportunities to pick out one we think is particularly worth your time. It could be an innovative brief, great prize money, a high-profile company, or just plain fun.

This week’s pick:The BRIT School looking for a playwright to write graduate production

Description: The BRIT School are currently looking for a playwright for their graduate theatre company The Bridge to write their 2017/18 production.

What’s so great about it? This is a professional, paid opportunity to write a play for The Bridge Company,  a training initiative run by the BRIT School’s Theatre department on a professional theatre model.

The chosen playwright will initially work with the company and the director one day a week to workshop the development of ideas, which will then culminate in writing a 70 minute play for a three week in run in London.

We’re always happy to see real job opportunities for playwrights, especially one like this where the successful writer will have their work performed on stage by professionals linked with a highly prestigious organisation such as the Brit School. They are looking writers with some experience in writing in response to a workshop setting and you’ve got until 6 July to send in your CV, a cover letter and a sample of your writing.

Read the full details here.

Please note, we’ve posted this for your convenience and we’re not affiliated with the organisers of the opportunity.

  1. London Playwrights Blog can be very helpful but according to my account, you posted this on 7th July, one day AFTER THE DEADLINE for application.
This appears to happen a lot. Please be mindful of the deadline, otherwise you are simply informing us of all the opportunities that we have missed.

      Dear Elva,

Thanks for flagging this up. We actually posted about this on 28 June originally and then again as our Pick of the Week on 5 July, before the deadline on 6th. It was an oversight on our part that this opportunity wasn’t removed from our Weekly Round-up last week but I hope you’ll bear in mind that we are a small group of volunteers who try our very best to bring you the latest playwriting opportunities, as accurately as we can! Thanks for using our website and we really hope you’ll continue to support our work.

Best of luck with your writing,

      Kimberley
