‘Pitch Perfect’ £12,000 Musical Theatre Prize

Perfect Pitch has announced a new £12,000 award for musical theatre writing, in association with Royal & Derngate Northampton.

Selected writers will be asked to ‘pitch’ ten minutes of a brand new musical to a panel of experienced judges including Olivier award winning actors Michael Ball and Janie Dee, director Rachel Kavanaugh (Love Story, Sound of Music), playwright Samuel Adamson (The Light Princess, Gabriel, All About My Mother) and Kerry Michael (Artistic Director, Theatre Royal Stratford East).

Perfect Pitch will provide cast, MD, director, rehearsal space and mentorship for the pitches.
The winning team will then be awarded a fee of £12,000 to complete a full draft of a show over a twelve month period, supported and mentored throughout by Perfect Pitch and Royal & Derngate.

At the end of the year, once the show has been developed through workshops and readings it will be presented in a professional staged reading.

The award is open to all writers – from playwrights and screenwriters to novelists and songwriters – and no previous experience of writing a musical is necessary.

Eligibility: To be eligible each writer must be:

  • Over the age of 18
  • A permanent British resident.
  • Able to demonstrate commitment to a writing career.
  • Able to provide three different extracts of their work in accordance with the criteria stated on the application form.

(NB: Previous writing does not have to have been performed or published professionally.
