Writer commission for Save Our Stories Project, Blackpool Council and Left Coast (£4,000 commission)

Blackpool Council and LeftCoast are seeking an artist and writer to produce work for the Save Our Stories project.

The commission is to develop a ‘Save Our Stories’ narrative that will inform their brand, their distinctive story and offer to children and  young people and help develop  the concept for the design of a special vehicle.

This commission is open to:  Professional writers, storytellers, dramatists and poets or collaborations between them. Submissions from outside the UK are welcome but please note there are no additional fees for travel from outside theUK.

Commission value:  £4,000 (plus VAT) fully inclusive of all materials, travel and fees.

What they are looking for:  The Save our Stories (S.O.S) narrative should relate to the idea that stories are disappearing, need rescuing  and be a ‘call to arms’ for children and young people to help with that mission. The exact interpretation of that theme is open to the interpretation of the selected writer or partnership but we would want them to work closely with the artist/designer chosen to design and produce a magical transporter for our S.O.S mobile – an ambitious, interactive, travelling spectacle that is both a unique artwork in its own right and a practical tool for engaging children and young people in storytelling and creative writing across Blackpool, Wyre and the North West of England.
