Writer-in-Residence Call for Applicants
Wasafiri, the UK’s leading magazine of international contemporary writing, invites proposals from writers in all genres (including poets, playwrights, fiction writers, memoirists and essayists) in application for our 2021/2022 Writer-in-Residence.
Launched in 1984 to create a vibrant publication space for authors from Africa, the Caribbean, South Asia, and their diasporas, Wasafiri has spread its reach over the last 36 years to encompass the works of writers worldwide.
Since 2018, we have appointed a Writer-in-Residence to support our efforts to discover, support, and promote the best new writing in all genres. For the 2021/2022 residency we are excited to introduce open applications for this role. Our previous Writers-in-Residence include Bidisha, Nick Makoha, and Jennifer Wong.
The aims of the residency are to widen Wasafiri’s reach across the UK, taking the organisation and its work beyond London to cultivate new talents and provoke conversations. During the period of the residency, the Writer-in-Residence will be expected to lead three workshops, develop new work, write one piece for Wasafiri in print or online, and support the promotion of Wasafiri.

The residency will last for six months starting no earlier than 1 September 2021 and ending no later than 31 March 2022. The fee for the residency is £750.
