Each week we look through our pile of writing opportunities to pick out one we think is particularly worth your time. It could be an innovative brief, great prize money, a high-profile company, or just plain fun.
This week’s pick: Digital Rapid Write Response at Theatre503
Description: Theatre503 runs a Rapid Write Response for each of its productions. Writers can attend a show for a discounted rate of £5, and then have the opportunity to create a short piece in response to the mainstage show. These are usually presented in the theatre, but in August they are seeking digital responses to post on their YouTube channel: “This response could be an audio response, a short video filmed on an iphone, a silent film, a digital twitter conversation…think creatively!”
What’s so great about it? Theatre503 is one of the best entry points for emerging writers looking to gain experience, and this is a unique opportunity to engage with their work. Attending the show on Writers Night gives you the opportunity to network with members of the literary team (as well as see a great show for a low price). We were particularly intrigued by the digital nature of this response, which is great for writers interested in experimentation or creating work across media. Plus, you’ll be able to continuing sharing the link to your work long after the opportunity ends. The Writers Night is TOMORROW 11 August (though you can also see the show another night if you choose), and you have until 17 August to submit your response, so leap on this one if you’re interested!
