Each week we look through our pile of writing opportunities to pick out one we think is particularly worth your time. It could be an innovative brief, great prize money, a high-profile company, or just plain fun.
This week’s pick: University of Wolverhampton accepting proposals for POP Drama
Description: The University of Wolverhampton are now accepting your proposals for the Creative Europe Playwriting Award for POP Drama. The 2016 POP Drama prize winner will have their play performed at the Arena Theatre – anticipated to be during the 2017/18 season – with their play also being worked into a full-scale touring production that will have staged readings in venues in the partnering countries (Italy, Romania, Spain). The Arena Theatre will support the winning entry to make this possible.
So, what’s so great about it? It’s always nice when a competition offers an actual production as its’ prize and the winner of this one will not only see their play performed at the Arena Theatre (Wolverhampton) but will also have their play worked into a full-scale touring production at venues in Italy, Romania and Spain. They’re accepting plays on any subject, providing that the theme can be understood universally so you don’t need to worry about working specifically to a brief. All entries are anonymous and the only drawback to this one is that you need to a submit a hard copy.
