Each week we look through our pile of writing opportunities to pick out one we think is particularly worth your time. It could be an innovative brief, great prize money, a high-profile company, or just plain fun.
This week’s pick: Brian Way Award 2018
Description: The Brian Way Award is an annual commission offered by Theatre Centre that supports the development of a new play for secondary school audiences. Writers receive a commission fee and are supported during a 16-month writing period. This year’s theme is ‘treaty’.
What’s so great about it? Many opportunities are for finished works, but the Brian Way Award is specifically designed to support and nurture a playwright through a commission process. The opportunity to write for young people is also one not to pass up – these are thrilling, challenging audience that require the full measure of a playwright’s craft. Plus, it’s pretty cool to think your work might help inspire the next generation of theatremakers. The submission window is 16 February, so best start planning your application now!
