Theatre503 seeking company/writer/writing team to create new pantomime

ARE YOU OUR NEXT PANTO COMPANY?
We’re looking for an exciting company and/or writer/writing team to work with us this December to deliver a family friendly pantomime building on the incredible foundation laid down by Sleeping Trees (Cinderella and the Beanstalk/Scrooge and the Seven Dwarves) and Louise Beresford and Anna Spearpoint (The Fairytale Revolution). We are also open to a possible matchmaking scenario where we pair a writer with an emerging company/producer to work with us as well.

WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
This is the time of year where we get to do a show for children and their families which must be funny, joyful, can definitely have songs and absolutely lots of jokes for the grown-ups to enjoy as well.

What we have found works best is using the classic panto/fairytale tropes and narratives and putting a new spin on them – for example an Avengers style mash-up of characters or setting the story in Battersea, given 50% of our audience are from Wandsworth (and for many it’s the only time of the year they come to the theatre).

We’d steer you away from is creating an anti-festive message (we’ve tried that and nobody comes…). This is not to say you can’t be bold, anarchic and silly – as that’s what everyone loves – but entertaining your audience and making them laugh is key.

We also expect the show to embrace our commitment to inclusivity and diversity and would actively encourage those that are underrepresented in the industry, including those from the global majority and all female companies to get in touch with us.

It also needs to be written by an early career writer (or writers) – we define this by anyone who hasn’t had a show of more than 65 mins running for 3/4 weeks or more.
